Krill Season over - total fishing over 200.000 tons.

Here on Aflafrettir.com we have been writing about the krill fishing.


Three big ships have been fishing krill close to the south pole and 

the ships come in land in Uruguay.  All this 3 ships are in own of company's from Norway.

Now the Krill season is over this year.

In total these 3 ships have landed  226,000 tons,

Antarctic Endurance has fish most, ore 93,500 tons in 11 trips ore 8500 tons per trips,

number 2 is Antarctic Sea that has fish 75,477 tons in 13 trips ore 5805 tons per trips

and number 3 is Saga Sea that has fish 57,032 tons in 18 trips that is about 3168 tons per trip.

But what is krill.

Well krill is small crustaoceans of the order Euphausiacea and are found in all the world.s oceans

the name "krill" comes from the Norwegian word Krill, meaning " small fry og fisk"

Krill are near the bottom of the food chain.

Krill is mostly used for aquaculture and aquarium feeds, as bait in sport fishing 

ore  in the pharmaceutical industry
